High Withers

High-withered horses are those with higher than average bumps where the shoulder blades and the neck meet. Saddle-fitting can be difficult for horses with high withers because they tend to slide down the back of the horse, which, in turn, can cause imbalanced riding. Horses are also more prone to chafing behind the withers when ill-fitting saddles continuously hit the area.

For horses with high withers, a gel saddle pad that can add extra lift on the cantle area like the Rear Riser Anti-Slip Gel Pad can help balance out a ride. This product is also ideal for horses with huge muscle build-up behind the withers.
